Broadway Pavement Improvements & ADA Upgrades

About the Project

ES&S provided design services and preparation of construction documents for the Broadway Pavement Improvements Project in downtown Columbia.  The project included an asphalt mill and overlay from Providence Road (State Route 163) to Hitt Street (approx. 2500-LF) and sidewalk ramp improvements to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.  Over 30 sidewalk ramps were reconstructed or had structural modifications.  Several others required installation of detectible warning surfaces.  Additional hardscape aesthetic treatments were added at the Ninth Street intersection.  Temporary traffic control plans routed pedestrians around the sidewalk ramps during construction.  Asphalt milling and resurfacing activities took place overnight to reduce vehicle and pedestrian traffic conflicts.  City staff provided pavement marking plan sheets, quantities, and specifications to be included in the contract documents.
