Columbia College North Quadrangle Initiative

About the Project

ES&S provided site layout planning and design services as part of an initiative to develop the North Quadrangle area in the heart of the College’s main campus.  The project includes significant new additions to the grounds, including the Whitcraft-Schiffman Memorial AmphitheaterAlumni Fountain, addition of Christian College* Garden, an outdoor dining pavilion, and relocation of the campus security office to this prominent gathering area.  Since the onset of the initiative, the quad has become a centrally-located gathering space for students to relax, study, and socialize.

Services included participation in site layout iterations, topographic and boundary surveys, subsurface investigations, extensive utility mapping and relocation design, grading plan, drainage, erosion and sediment control, sidewalk and parking lot upgrades, and new hardscape features including permeable pavement to improve storm runoff water quality.  ES&S worked as subconsultant to prime architectural consultant, SOA.

*  Christian College was the original name of the institution from its founding in 1851 until 1970. (top image source credit www.ccis.edu).  An outstanding aerial video of the new quad can be found on Columbia College’s Facebook page:
