ES&S provided full civil site design services for construction of the new 315,000-sf Muriel Battle High School campus in Columbia, Missouri. ES&S first assisted the Owner with evaluation of sites for the new facility, requiring conceptual site plans, evaluation of necessary services and opinions of site development costs associated with various locations for an approximately 80-acre property. Low Impact Development (LID) site design practices were applied to grading and drainage plans, erosion and sediment control, pavement design, and site layout of building and parking. Curbless paving and grass swales were used throughout the site to capture surface flow from parking lots and roof drains. The resulting flows are then conveyed to a variety of storm water detention & retention facilities and water quality features, to allow storm runoff time for deposition of solids, as well as using species of vegetation that will encourage nutrient uptake as flows work their way through the 60-acre site. ES&S worked directly for CPS and as a subconsultant to the prime design firm, DLR Group.
