Missouri State Penitentiary Greenway Trail

About the Project

ES&S provided full design services for 4000-LF of mixed-use trail as part of the ongoing redevelopment of property that was the historic Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) in Jefferson City.  The ten-foot wide concrete trail meanders along Riverside Street, then turns north to parallel the entrance road to the Lewis and Clark State Office Building, home of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.  The topography required retaining walls in several locations, and care was taken to avoid the number of trees that were taken along the heavily wooded portions of the corridor.  Amenities included benches, bike racks, trash receptacles along the trail, and a kiosk describing the linkage of the MSP Greenway Trail with the overall City of Jefferson’s Greenway System.
