ES&S provided design services and preparation of construction documents for a pavement resurfacing on over four miles of MO Route B and two miles of MO Route 763 (College Avenue) in Columbia/Boone County. This alteration requires upgrades of the sidewalks along the corridors to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This resulted in the evaluation, modification and reconstruction of approximately 230 sidewalk ramps and 65-percent of the existing sidewalk. ES&S worked closely with MoDOT to evaluate and retain as much of the existing sidewalk that was ADA-compliant or could be brought into compliance with minor maintenance or rehabilitation. The project included coordination with stakeholders along both corridors, including the City of Columbia and University of Missouri, as the College Avenue corridor runs along the east side of the City’s central business district and the Mizzou campus. The project also included three at-grade railroad crossings of the City’s COLT RR and multiple signalized intersections, including a major upgrade of the traffic signal components at the intersection of College Avenue and Rogers Street/Paris Road. ES&S engaged a subconsultant, SE3, to provide design services for the traffic signal and pedestrian-crossing replacement along with minor geometric revisions at the skewed intersection.
